CHICAGO:
With a rousing call to end the war in Gaza and fight tyranny worldwide, Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted her party’s presidential nomination on Thursday, striking a stark contrast to Republican Donald Trump.
“In the getting through battle among a majority rules government and oppression, I know where I stand and I know where the US should be,” Harris said, blaming Trump for cozying up to despots.
Harris, 59, sought to redefine herself for America on the convention’s most anticipated final night as she and Trump enter the final 11 weeks of their razor-thin campaign.
Following quite a while of fights from Palestinian allies who were disheartened at not getting a talking spot at the show, Harris conveyed a promise to get Israel, bring the prisoners home from Gaza and end the conflict in the Palestinian territory.
She exclaimed, to cheers, “Now is the time to complete a ceasefire and hostage agreement.” And let me be clear: I will always defend Israel’s right to defend itself and ensure that Israel has the means to do so.”
“The events that have taken place in Gaza over the past ten months are devastating. There were so many innocent people killed and so many desperate, starving people running for safety repeatedly. She stated, “The scale of the suffering is heartbreaking.”
“President Biden and I are working to put an end to this war so that Israel can be safe, the hostages can be released, the suffering in Gaza can end, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination,” the president stated.
After allies of 81-year-old President Joe Biden forced Harris to withdraw from the race, Harris emerged as the Democratic candidate a little more than a month ago. She stands to become the first woman to be elected president of the United States if she succeeds.
She portrayed the Nov. 5 political race as a “valuable, passing an open door to move past the sharpness, skepticism and disruptive clashes of the past. a chance to plot a new course for the future.”
Harris contrasted Trump in a number of ways, accusing him of not fighting for the middle class, planning to enact a tax increase through his tariff proposals, and having set in motion the end of the constitutional right to abortion with his Supreme Court picks.
Harris noticed the High Court’s new decision about official invulnerability and the dangers that would cause assuming Trump acquired power once more.
She stated, “Just imagine Donald Trump without guard rails.”
As Harris spoke about him, Trump, who had promised to respond in real time, posted a series of messages on Truth Social, including: She represents weakness and incompetence; our nation is ridiculed worldwide!” and “The Tyrants of the World will never respect her!”
